Atlanta Live at the Park Traven

ATL LIVE ON THE PARK
By: Denise Young

Das and Marlon Nichols and presented by Gentleman Jack – was like a family reunion of R&B stars. This was the event to be at in Atlanta on April 19,2011. The Park Traven is located in the heart of Midtown on the corner of 10th Street and Monroe overlooking Piedmont Park and was an original Stone Mountain granite structure of the building was built in 1905 as horse stables for local racing enthusiasts and transformed into the Men’s Club and golf clubhouse in 1928. In 1990 the building was renovated and opened as a restaurant and special events facility. This place was amazing with views to die for overlooking the city of Atlanta (http://www.parktavern.com/).
Atlanta Live On The Park is a monthly showcase .This Incredible Outdoor/ Indoor Venue Allows our Guests to have a Cocktail and Food with a Scenic Backdrop View of the City, all while watching Live R&B Performances by Old and New School Artists.

The show started late, and but I can tell you that it was worth the wait! With the list of celebrities that attended the event to support and perform was very refreshing. Our host for the night was Kenny Burns and he entertained us with jokes and humor while introducing the acts for the night. First on the line up was a new group on Atlantic records called “Hamilton Park.” Industry legend Andre Harrell was on hand to introduce his new group Hamilton Park, The group had a great stage presents and the crowd enjoyed the boyish appeal that they brought to Atlanta Live. This is what I learned about Hamilton Park as I saw their performance last night.
Hamilton Park may have honed their vocal skills while singing in their church choirs, but they are much more than just four guys who share a love for singing. They are a brotherhood born on the basketball courts of Hamilton Park Recreation Center in Atlanta. Hamilton Park, which is made up of Anthony, Mr. Marcus Lee, Chris Voice and Royce P, turned to both music and basketball as a way to avoid trouble in the streets of Atlanta, and remain on the path of following their dreams. Never once did H.P., imagine that the endless time spent playing basketball, or singing for hours on end, would later lead to being discovered by legendary music mogul Andre Harrell through his partnership with Radio One’s “Superstar Soul Search,” becoming the first group signed to his label, Harrell Records.

In 2010, Andre Harrell and Radio One launched the “Superstar Soul Search” in Atlanta, with the grand prize being a recording contract with Harrell Records. H.P. unfortunately missed the registration deadline, but fate would soon bring the four another chance to perform in front of Harrell. While on a radio promo tour for the competition throughout Atlanta, Harrell heard more and more about H.P. from every radio station he visited. After a visit to Atlanta station WHTA, Harrell learned that the Southeast Regional Manager for Atlantic Records, Yancey Richardson, who had been with him throughout this promo tour, was actually one of the managers of H.P. Harrell reached out to Yancey to set up a meeting with his partner Frame and the group for an impromptu performance(http://www.hamiltonparkmusic.com/)
In between acts the host brought on R&B Stars that was in attendance that night such as Nikki from Brownstone, and Q from 112. Next on the line up was soul singer Noel Gourdin and “American Idol” alum Anoop Desai gave crowd-moving performances.
Noel Gourdin

Anoop Desai was a contestant that appeared on America Idol Season 8 as a finalist. Anoop give a great performance and the crowd was really into his stage appeal. Here is a little more information about Anoop! His debut music video premiered on February 4thfor “All Is Fair (Crazy Love).” The video received amazing feedback from the fans on Twitter. In the music video, Anoop is begging for just one more chance with a woman, and she uses various methods of torture to eliminate him.

The last performer on the roster was R&B vocalist, composer, arranger, producer Kelly Price. Kelly Price shut it down and she told that audience she was not at a full 100. However, we were in the building and you could not tell if you were there. She gives a performance that took you to church and back! The crowd stood up while Kelly gives a marvelous performance. In true Kelly Price fashion, the talented diva charmed the audience with heart-stopping renditions of “As We Lay” and her current single “Tired.” She ended the show with her original classic “Friend of Mine” (with a little help from Q Parker on “Mr. Biggs”’ part).
