Joyful Noise Review

By: Denise Young

Movie screenings are my favorite in the world to do so when I was invited to come to the screening of "Joyful Noise" with Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton, Keke Palmer, Dexter Darden and Courtney B. Vance I was super excited. The screening was held at Stone crest Mall in Lithonia Georgia hosted by Kingdom wood film festival on Thursday December 15, 2011.

When I received my invited I did not know what to expect from this film, but I am a fan of the fabulous county singer Dolly Parton and the talented actress Queen Latifah so I watched with an open mind and heart.

The film was directed by Todd Graff and the synopsis goes as the following: The small town of Pacashau, Georgia, has fallen on hard times, but the people are counting on the Divinity Church Choir to lift their spirits by winning the National Joyful Noise Competition. The choir has always known how to sing in harmony, but the discord between its two leading ladies now threatens to tear them apart. Their newly appointed director, Vi Rose Hill (Queen Latifah), stubbornly wants to stick with their tried-and-true traditional style, while the fiery G.G. Sparrow (Dolly Parton) thinks tried-and-true translates to tired-and-old. Shaking things up even more is the arrival of G.G.’s rebellious grandson, Randy (Jeremy Jordan). Randy has an ear for music, but he also has an eye for Vi Rose’s beautiful and talented daughter, Olivia (Keke Palmer), and the sparks between the two teenagers are causing even more heat between G.G. and Vi Rose.

The film was filled with funny punch lines that will make you laugh, cry and make you forget that this is a Christian film. This director made you want to sing in a choir even if you cannot hold a note. The cast was talented and creative in the way they spin Christian traditional songs and turn them into new hip lyrics and made them related to every age group. The cast keep you entertained to the beginning to the end! I recommend this movie for all families; the release date is January 13, 2012. So run to go see! You will come home with a sense of joy, no Joyful Noise!
I give this film five stars......

  1. Sigh another singing movie where someone shouts their lungs out about nothing.
    This will be another sleeper.
    NO CREATIVITY whatsoever.

The Queen is fine as usual though.
    Dolly is still pretty.
Keke, umm go back to Disney.
