WE CAN’T BELIEVE THEY COULDN’T MAKE IT LAST! SURPRISING CELEBRITY BREAKUPS OF 2012

RHEA PEARLMAN AND DANNY DEVITO

Rhea and Danny are like Hollywood staples. The couple met in 1971, moved in together two weeks later, and, oddly, didn’t marry for another 10 years in 1982. Still, they’ve got 40 years under their belt which is why news that the two were divorcing in October hit fans so hard. The good news is as of earlier this month, Danny told Extra the pair is still working on their marriage and that they’re “still together – just separate, but together.”

Better be.

STEVIE WONDER AND KAI MILLER

In August, news broke that Stevie Wonder and his wife of 11 years, Kai Miller, were headed for separation city. The decision to file for divorce may have been a long time coming as far as Stevie was concerned, considering him and his wife had been separated since 2009, but after a couple in Hollywood makes it 10 years, you start to think they’ll make it last forever. Unfortunately those years and their two kids weren’t enough and these two will soon be back on the market.

JUSTIN BEIBER AND SELINA GOMEZ

Though you wouldn’t expect two people their age to last very long, after so many break-up rumors everyone just assumed the last one was nothing but more gossip as well — but it wasn’t. When talk of Justin possibly cheating with a Victoria’s Secret model starting picking up speed, everyone wondered what Selena was going to say, but no one thought “I want to break up” was going to be the response. That appeared to be the case though. But, like Rhea and Danny, the young love birds seem to be working on things as they’ve been seen together plenty of times since the supposed split.

CHRIS BROWN AND KARRUECHE

I don’t think anybody thought they’d be walking down the aisle, but it certainly wasn’t expected  Brezzy would break up with Karreuche via a VEVO video to be friends with Rihanna and then claim it’s nobody’s business. Who does that? So far, it seems Chris and Karrueche merely exchanged boyfriend-girlfriend titles for friends with benefits because Breezy’s been dividing his time rather equally between instagraming with Rihanna and traveling the globe with Karrueche.

CHAD AND EVELYN

The only reason their breakup is surprising is because it happened after they walked down the aisle and not before. No one expected these two to actually jump the broom, except maybe VH1 so they could make good on their investment. And though I’m sure Ocho and Ev felt like they got the last laugh when they made things official in July, a headbutt one month later and divorce that swiftly followed proved why everyone had no faith in this pair to begin with.

JOE AND TINA SIMPSON

No one really would have thought twice about Jessica Simpson’s parents calling it quits were it not for the rumors that 54-year-old Papa Joe was galavanting around town with a 21-year-old aspiring male model. Um yeah. Joe and a rep for the family denied the claims of course, but when news like that drops before divorce papers are filed, people have a hard time believing the rumors aren’t true.

KATIE AND TOM CRUISE

No one thought it was possible to leave a scientologist but Katie proved us wrong when she divorced Tom Cruise this year. The pair had one of the quickest and quietest divorces as far as celebrities go. Katie reportedly filed for separation June 29 and by July 9,  the ending of their six-year marriage was a done deal. Since NY law requires divorce settlements to remain sealed, these two will go down in history as having one of the most mysterious marriages and divorces of our time.

MARTIN LAWRENCE AND SHAMIKA GIBBS

Together 13 years, married for two? You’d think after all that pre-marital time together, they’d be able to make it work, but in April People broke the news that the pair, who tied the knot in 2010 after having two kids together was parting ways.

HEIDI KLUM AND SEAL

This isn’t one of those Hollywood couples who stays on people’s radar year-round, but we knew that whenever we’d see them out they’d be paired up with their kids like a loving family. Unfortunately that vision was shattered earlier this year when Heidi announced in January that they were filing for divorce, and Seal confirmed the rumors wherever he could. Any hope these two could get back together was even further shut down when Heidi began dating her bodyguard just a few months later. Now they’re the happy looking couple we see out and about.
